ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley used a late surge to overcome 25 turnovers and move past Penn State Harrisburg, 87-68, in the Rinso Marquette Tournament first round.
The Dutchmen (2-1) will face #19 Randolph-Macon in Sunday's 3 p.m. final in a rematch of the 2005-06 final. RMC was a 76-60 winner over Rutgers-Newark. Rutgers-Newark will play Penn State Harrisburg in the 1 p.m. consolation.
Anthony Trautman had a career-high 18 points off the bench, and
Joe Meehan added 16 points and eight assists, including an incredible 60-foot buzzer-beater to end the first half.
Dan Dunkelberger notched his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Sean MacIntosh drained 15 points on 4-for-5 three-point shooting.
The Lions were led by Steve Jones, who poured in 28 points off the bench, and Kenton Alston added 22. Both had eight rebounds.
LVC shot 56.4 percent, but gave the ball away 25 times; the Lions shot just 33.3 percent.
The Dutchmen led comfortably for most of the first half, leading by as much as 14 at one point before PSUH pared it back to single digits just before the half. Out of the break, the Lions hit a 7-0 run to cut the LVC lead to five, and Jones' layup with 14:30 left made it a one-basket game at 57-55.
But Meehan's layup, followed by a Trautman three-pointer, stopped the run, and LVC went up by nine when Trautman added another layup with 12:26 to go. The Lions kept chipping away, however, and were down by three before an 8-0 run spurred by a pair of Trautman baskets and MacIntosh's 3-ball all but ended the comeback.
In the opener, David Carlson scored 18 off the bench as #19 Randolph-Macon held off Rutgers-Newark, 76-60, in an entertaining game. The Yellow Jackets had to overcome a 36-32 halftime deficit after a hot start by the Scarlet Raiders.
