ANNVILLE, Pa. - #7 Lebanon Valley officially wrapped up a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth Sunday, topping Alvernia 4-1 in CC play.
The Dutchmen (14-2, 4-1 CC) needed two late goals to extend a frustrating 2-1 lead, despite outshooting the Crusaders (9-8, 2-4 CC) by a huge 31-4 margin.
Jenni Walker notched a goal and three assists as she was involved in all four Dutchman goals, and
Jocelyn Novak,
Allison Bicher, and
Nikki Bomberger added tallies for LVC. Walker's three helpers marked only the fifth time in program history that a player had notched three assists, one shy of the single-game record.
Alvernia's Samantha Landis scored the game's opening goal, blasting a shot from the arc off Lauren Guido's corner injection at 7:04 to put the Crusaders in the lead.
Despite a string of nine corners, LVC remained scoreless until
Caitlin Vasey put a perfect cross on Walker's stick at 17:14, and Bicher finished on an angle from Walker at 26:51 to take a 2-1 lead into the break despite significant first-half advantages in shots (16-2) and corners (13-1).
Strong Crusader defense kept them in the game until Novak scored her 21st goal of the season on the hour, tipping Walker's shot from across the goal mouth after
Avery Carter pushed a pass forward from the arc.
Bomberger put the icing on the cake with a laser from the arc after Walker's corner injection after the final buzzer sounded.
Alvernia's Abby Eby made 15 saves in a fantastic effort, and she also got defensive saves from Sarah George and Tonya Rutt.
Caitlin Baro stopped three to pick up the win.
LVC will face a tough test on Tuesday with Elizabethtown visiting at 4 p.m.
