#1 Messiah Slips Past #7 LVC

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Three goals in a four-minute span late in the second half propelled #1 Messiah past #7 Lebanon Valley, 4-1, in Commonwealth Conference play Wednesday night.

The Dutchmen (13-2, 3-1 CC) carried a 1-1 tie with the unbeaten Falcons (14-0, 5-0 CC) deep into the second half, but two quick strikes by Kourtney Ehly and another by Katie Love blew the game open late.

LVC had plenty of chances to score, but was held to just two shots in the second half as Messiah ripped off 10 of their 15 in the period.

After the Dutchmen controlled the early going, Love countered with Messiah's first goal, converting Ehly's pass at 22:16 to go up 1-0.

The Dutchmen answered in the 32nd minute, with Caitlin Vasey slipping a pass past goalkeeper Ashley Mowery for Jocelyn Novak, who slammed home the finish to equalize.

The tense game stayed knotted deep into the second half, despite scoring chances on both ends, but Ehly broke the floodgates open at 56:17 before potting again at 59:39 out of a scramble. Love put the icing on the cake from Emily Hursh at 60:32.

Mowrey made five stops in the win; Caitlin Baro saved seven shots. Messiah held a 15-7 shots advantage, while LVC had three corners to Messiah's two in the fast-paced game.

LVC returns home for a three-game homestand starting Saturday. The Dutchmen will host Alvernia at 11 a.m. on Oktoberfest Weekend, and it will also be Senior Day.
