Women's Soccer Can't Catch Blue Jays

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Lebanon Valley College threw everything it had at Elizabethtown in the final minutes of their women's soccer match on Tuesday, but despite many throw-in attempts and restarts, the Dutchmen could not score the equalizer. A first-half goal was all the Blue Jays needed for a 1-0 win in Commonwealth Conference action.

Kelsey Boehmer scored her third goal of the season for Elizabethtown, finding a loose ball off a scrum in the box and potting the eventual game-winner.

With the loss, LVC falls to 6--9-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Blue Jays improve to 7-7-0 and 3-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.

E-Town controlled most of the first half, sending eight shots towards goal. LVC keeper Young made two saves, but Beohmer's shot in the 26th minute eluded her to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

In the 35th minute, Ely Kirkhoff had a chance to tie the game for the Dutchmen, but her shot was snagged by Jess Manchak. She finished with two saves for the Blue Jays in goal.

In the second half, LVC had a few chances to tie the game, but the Blue Jays defense kept the Dutchmen at bay. The Dutchmen's best chance came with under 10 minutes to play when Sara Drabenstadt sent a cross from the left side into the box. The pass was out of the reach of the Elizabethtown defenders in range - but also just beyond two sliding LVC players attempting to get a foot on the ball. The Dutchmen had a few chances in the final minutes off throw-ins and free kicks, but couldn't get close to goal to even the match.

The Dutchmen are back in action Oct. 22 against Wesley at home at 4 p.m.
