Lycoming Shuts Down Men's Soccer, 1-0

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
- Lycoming College scored early and held on to spoil Lebanon Valley College's bid for a first-ever perfect conference record, winning 1-0 in men's soccer play on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (9-8-0, 5-1-0 CC) had already clinched a share of first place, but could end up in a three-way tie with Lycoming and Messiah, pending the results of those two teams' final games. Lycoming has yet to play Widener, and Messiah has Arcadia, Albright, and Elizabethtown still to come.

If LVC ends up in a two-way tie with Messiah, LVC would clinch the #1 seed; however, a tie with Lycoming would give the Dutchmen the second seed. A three-way tie would relegate LVC to the third seed, with Messiah getting the top spot based on a series of complex tiebreaking procedures.

Lycoming scored in the 24th minute of a rainy, sloppy game on Chris Lorenzet's 13th goal of the season. Matt Frey's initial shot hit the post, and Lorenzet immediately buried the rebound for the eventual winner.

Lyco outshot LVC 13-12 and led 8-6 on corners. Tim Mehl made three saves, while David Bald stopped four for the win.

LVC will play its regular-season finale Oct. 29 when it meets #18 North Carolina Wesleyan at the Germantown Soccer Complex in Boyds, Maryland.
