DALLAS, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team dropped their season opener, 1-0, to Misericordia University Friday evening.
The Flying Dutchmen (0-1) got 11 saves from junior goalkeeper Erika Ely, but the Cougars (1-0) rifled off 17 shots to eventually break through.
Misericordia's Kim Suchoski hit the gamewinner in the 15th minute off a pass from Brittany Brouse. The Cougars dominated the game offensively, outshooting LVC 17-6, but Ely's outstanding play held Misericordia at bay.
Senior Kristen Hoover narrowly missed an equalizer when she hit the bar with 8:54 to play.
Misericordia held a 3-2 edge in corners. The Cougars' Jen Gregorowicz made six saves in working the shutout.
Lebanon Valley will continue the season Sept. 5 with a visit to Franklin & Marshall.
