Field Hockey Tops #20 F&M for 10th In a Row

LANCASTER, Pa. - Junior Alex Wolfe scored two goals to lead No. 5 Lebanon Valley College past No. 20 Franklin & Marshall, 2-0, Thursday night.

The Dutchmen (10-0) are off to their best start since 2000, when the team won a program-record 14 straight games to begin the season. LVC improved to 3-0 this season against nationally-ranked teams.

The Diplomats (7-3) managed just three shots in the game, and did not get a shot on goal. The LVC defense held the Dips without a shot in the second half.

Wolfe has now scored 10 points in the last two games after a six-point performance at the University of Scranton on Tuesday.

The Dutchmen got off to a fast start in the seventh minute when Wolfe drove to the end line and beat her defender for the game's opening goal.

Despite taking eight shots in the first half, LVC would have to be content with a 1-0 halftime lead.

Wolfe gave the Dutchmen a bit of a cushion in the 60th minute, however, when she caught a breakaway, beat the keeper, and buried a shot into the empty cage to make it 2-0.

Sophomore Caitlin Baro earned the shutout but was not called upon to make a save; Jennifer Burdo stopped four.

Both teams took 11 penalty corners, but LVC held a large 14-3 shot advantage.

Lebanon Valley will host Villa Julie College Saturday at 11 a.m. as part of Oktoberfest Weekend. The 1997 NCAA semifinalist team will be honored at halftime of that game.
