Women's Soccer Shuts Out Albright, 2-0

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team picked up its first Commonwealth Conference win Tuesday, topping rival Albright College, 2-0, at Herbert Field.

The Flying Dutchmen (9-5-1, 1-1 CC) got the better of their opponents from the get-go, taking 10 shots in the first half alone. The Lions fell to 6-8-1 and 0-2 in Commonwealth play.

LVC got on the board in the 34th minute when Emily Bainbridge set up a free kick from a dangerous position just outside the box. Bainbridge struck a perfect outcurling free kick into the top left corner to put LVC up 1-0.

The Dutchmen held that lead into the half, but added to it in the blink of an eye.

Freshman Lauren King scored the game's second goal just nine seconds into the second half, taking the ball off the kickoff and floating a shot from 18 yards out over the head of Jess Schmura.

Junior Erika Ely made three saves but was never seriously tested as she earned the shutout.

LVC outshot Albright 15-6, while the Lions held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks. Schmura made eight saves in the loss.

Lebanon Valley returns to action Saturday at No. 2 Messiah College.
