ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team nearly pulled off a major upset, but Elizabethtown College broke a 2-2 deadlock with a goal in double-overtime to win, 3-2, at Herbert Field Saturday afternoon.
The Dutchmen (8-5-1, 0-1 Commonwealth) came back from 2-0 down to tie the game in the 78th minute. The Blue Jays (13-1-1, 1-0 Commonwealth) received a hat trick from Brooke Dotterer, including the decisive third goal in the 104th minute.
Dotterer opened the scoring in the 13th minute on an unassisted breakaway, then added a second at 37:26 off Jenna Russo's pass.
But LVC's Jenny DiMauro pulled one back five minutes before the half when she took Kristen Hoover's pass in the middle and buried a goal.
Hoover ended up striking the equalizer from distance in the 78th minute, sending the game to overtime.
LVC did not manage a shot in the extra period, and after a scoreless first 10 minutes, Dotterer completed her hat trick with another breakaway goal six minutes from time.
Erika Ely once again kept the Dutchmen in the game, making 12 saves. E-town outshot LVC 21-6.
LVC will host Albright College Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
