ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Missy Shultz (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) and freshman Alyssa Stine (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) scored two goals apiece, leading No. 14 Lebanon Valley to a 6-0 victory over Moravian College in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action Wednesday afternoon at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
Lebanon Valley (9-4, 3-1 CC), which scored four of its goals on penalty corners, won for the sixth time in its last seven games while Moravian (7-4, 1-3 CC) lost for the second game in a row.
LVC wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as freshman Mimi Sullivan (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley)drilled in a shot off the first penalty corner of the game just 1:36 into the contest. Stine made it 2-0 five and a half minutes later when she converted a feed from Sullivan.
Shultz got into the act in the 22nd minute, scoring off an assist from sophomore Mallary Anderson (Columbia, Pa./Donegal) to give LVC a 3-0 halftime lead.
Senior Erin Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) and Stine scored 1:38 apart early in the second half to put the game out of reach for LVC. Behney notched her second goal of the season when she potted an unassisted tally in the 41st minute, and Stine punched in her second goal of the game and sixth of the year in the 43rd minute. Sophomore Claire Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) provided the assist on Stine’s second goal.
Shultz capped LVC’s scoring with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.
Sophomores Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and Abbey Gockley (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) split the time in goal to share the shutout. Pawlewicz started and made one save, a diving stop to her left early in the game, while Gockley also turned away one shot.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts DeSales University in a non-conference game starting at 1 p.m. during Homecoming/Family Weekend.
