Balanced Scoring Effort Powers Women’s Lacrosse at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team had 10 different goal scorers in a big bounce-back 19-1 victory over Delaware Valley University on Wednesday evening at Robert A. Lipinski Field in Doylestown.

The Dutchmen (7-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) scored two minutes into the game as Molly Whisler converted a free position shot on LVC's first offensive possession. Nina Humpf controlled the next draw, and Katie DeWitt was fouled to give the team another free position attempt. The shot was saved, but LVC forced a turnover on the clear attempt. Whisler then drove to the crease for her second goal of the game. Grace Marchese won the following draw, and 30 seconds later, Whisler found Bethany Cohee open over the middle for a 3-0 advantage. The Dutchmen added two more goals over the next few minutes to take a 5-0 lead after just seven minutes of play. Humpf scored both goals with Annelise Shack having the assist on the second goal.

The Aggies earned their first free position attempt of the game midway through the quarter. Their first shot went wide of the goal. Humpf picked up a ground ball off a turnover, and after clearing the ball, Kyla Hebert scored to push the advantage to 6-0 with 5:53 on the clock. DVU called a timeout, but that didn't stop LVC's momentum as Marchese won the draw control, and Whisler connected with DeWitt for a goal less than a minute later. LVC continued to attack the goal as Kamille Bagapuro and Hebert had shots saved before Cohee sent a shot into the back of the net to make it 8-0 with 2:32 remaining in the quarter. Gigi Ditsky made her first save on the first shot she faced, and after LVC cleared the ball, Cohee found Elizabeth Morgan open for a 9-goal lead after the first period.

LVC began the second quarter with possession of the ball, and Bagapuro had a shot saved. The Aggies failed to clear the ball, with the Dutchmen taking advantage as Hannah Schneider scored to give the team a double-digit advantage. The Aggies countered with a woman-up goal to bring the deficit down to nine with 11:31 left in the half. Marchese won the draw control, and after a timeout, Morgan scored her second goal of the game off a feed by Cohee. Delaware Valley won the next draw, and Ditsky came up with a big save.

The Dutchmen cleared the ball, and Hebert was able to fire a shot into the back of the goal for her second goal of the game. Using the running clock, the Dutchmen added another goal with right around five minutes left in the half as Cohee hit Megan Williver over the middle for a goal. Williver nearly added another goal a couple of minutes later, but her attempt was saved. The Dutchmen closed out the half with a goal as Schneider converted a free position shot in the final minute to make it 14-1.

Katie Giusti forced a turnover and picked up the ground ball to begin the second half. Humpf completed her first career hat trick to push the lead to 14. The Dutchmen played strong defense over the rest of the quarter and held the ball on offense using the clock. Ditsky came up with a save while LVC was a woman down. The Dutchmen cleared the ball, and Whisler had a shot saved at the other end of the field. Ditsky made another great stop on a free position attempt to keep the Aggies off the scoreboard. Whisler added to the lead with her third goal of the game off another assist by Cohee. Shack and Williver had shots saved to keep the advantage at 16-1 after three quarters of play.

Bagapuro scored on the first offensive play of the fourth quarter. LVC continued to throw shots at the cage while running time off the clock. Bagapuro had a shot saved before Ditsky made a save at the other end of the field. DeWitt had a shot saved, and then Schneider put a shot wide. The Dutchmen scored twice in the final four minutes as Maddie Puleo scored on a free position shot, and then Whisler scored in the final minute off a pass from DeWitt. The Dutchmen dominated possession over the final five minutes as Delaware Valley possessed the ball just once and turned the ball over after a clear.
