WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Erin Pattillo,
Holly Grube, and
Maddy Gronback each drove in a run for the Lebanon Valley College Softball team during the top of the seventh inning in game two of its doubleheader against Lycoming College, leading the program to a 3-0 victory on Monday, April 21, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex Softball Field. The Flying Dutchmen also battled tough in the first matchup while dropping a 4-1 contest.
Game One
Grube started in the pitching circle for the Dutchmen (20-11, 11-1 MAC Freedom) and retired the Warriors (12-12, 3-9 Landmark) in order in the bottom of the first inning, recording a groundout to shortstop
Megan Heard, a groundout that the pitcher fielded herself, and a groundout to third baseman
Nicole Kratz. Grube also posted a 1-2-3 frame for Lebanon Valley in the bottom of the second, registering a groundout to second baseman
Emily Mitchell, a strikeout looking, and another groundout to second.
The Flying Dutchmen generated some traffic on the basepaths in the top of the third inning, loading the bases after
Mackenzie Willey hit a double to center field, Heard was hit by a pitch, and
Lexi Smith drew a walk. Lycoming then opened the scoring in the bottom half of the third, taking a 1-0 lead on a solo home run to center field. Lebanon Valley also continued to battle at the plate as the game went into the top of the fourth, putting runners on first and second base with two outs after
Julia Craig hit a double down the right-field line and Mitchell drew a walk.
The Warriors added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, going ahead 3-0 after an RBI single through the right side and an error. Lycoming followed this by scoring on an RBI fielder's choice to shortstop in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a 4-0 advantage. The Dutchmen also kept competing in the batter's box as the contest progressed, as Kratz hit a two-out single to third base.
Back in the pitching circle, reliever
Abby Reed delivered a scoreless bottom of the sixth for LVC with a flyout to Smith in center field, a popout to Craig at first base, and a lineout to Mitchell at second base. Lebanon Valley then got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning, making it a 4-1 game. Pinch-hitter
Bella Mackison started a two-out rally with a walk and was pinch-ran for by
Lauren Foster, who advanced to second on Heard's single to left field. Heard and Foster followed this by advancing to second and third base on a wild pitch before Smith drove in Foster with an RBI single through the left side. The Warriors proceeded to maintain their lead through the end of the game.

- Smith recorded a base hit to mark her third consecutive game with a hit while logging an RBI. The senior also had a game-high two walks, marking a season-high and matching a career-high.

Game Two
Maycee White pitched for Lebanon Valley (21-11, 11-1 MAC Freedom) and retired Lycoming (12-13, 3-9 Landmark) in order in the bottom of the first inning with a flyout to Smith in center field, a groundout to Grube at second base, and another flyout to Smith. The Dutchmen then got a couple of runners on base in the top of the second, as Craig hit a single up the middle and
Abby McElroy drew a walk. White followed this with a shutout bottom of the second, notching the third out with a strikeout swinging to leave a runner on first base.
The Flying Dutchmen also continued to battle at the plate in the top of the third inning, as Smith walked and Kratz doubled to center field to put runners on second and third base with two outs. In the bottom half of the third, White pitched a 1-2-3 inning for LVC with a flyout to Smith in center field, a groundout to McElroy at shortstop, and a groundout to Kratz at third base. White also retired the side in order in the bottom of the fourth, registering two groundouts to McElroy at shortstop and a flyout to Willey in right field.
The Warriors had runners on first and second base with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Dutchmen got out of the frame when Kratz caught a line drive at third base and threw the ball to first to complete a double play. Kratz then continued her productive game in the top of the sixth, hitting a one-out double to right-center field. This was followed by White delivering another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the sixth with a groundout to McElroy at shortstop, a groundout to Kratz at third, and a groundout to Grube at second.
Lebanon Valley got on the board in the top of the seventh inning, taking a 3-0 lead over Lycoming. Willey led off the frame with a double to right field and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by McElroy, before crossing the plate on
Erin Pattillo's bunt RBI single to third base. Pattillo followed this by stealing second base to move into scoring position and being driven in by Grube's RBI single through the right side. Later in the inning, Gronback hit an RBI single through the right side to knock in Smith. White proceeded to secure LVC's 3-0 victory with a scoreless bottom of the seventh, notching the final out with a groundout to McElroy at shortstop to strand runners on first and second.
