KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Lebanon Valley College Softball team received contributions from several members of its lineup on the last day of its trip to Florida, as seven players scored runs and six had RBIs during the program's doubleheader on Saturday, March 8, at Fortune Road Field 2.
Katie Muller made an impact at the plate, recording two hits and a run scored in each game of the twin bill. The Flying Dutchmen delivered valiant efforts in both matchups but dropped a 3-2 contest to Ursinus College before Western New England University took the second game by a score of 10-5.
Game One vs. Ursinus
Starting pitcher
Maycee White began her outing with a scoreless top of the first inning for the Dutchmen (5-4), picking up a strikeout for the second out before stranding runners on second and third with a groundout to third base. White also kept the Bears (1-3) off the board in the top of the second inning, tallying another strikeout in the process.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the bottom half of the second, taking a 2-0 lead. The club loaded the bases with one out when
Mackenzie Willey was hit by a pitch, Muller singled to right field, and
Maddie Russell hit a single to center field.
Megan Heard followed this with an RBI single through the left side, driving in Willey.
Holly Grube then hit an RBI single to left field, plating Muller. In the top of the third inning, White delivered a shutout frame and logged the final out with a groundout to third base.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to compete in the batter's box in the bottom of the third inning, as Willey hit a single up the middle and stole second base before Muller hit a single to third. Ursinus then got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, narrowing its deficit to 2-1 on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Abby Reed entered the game to pitch for Lebanon Valley in the top of the fifth inning and blanked the opposition. The Bears had runners on first and second with no outs and the pitcher recorded the first out with a strikeout swinging, before catching a ball hit back to the circle and throwing it to first baseman
Nikki Sellers for the double play.
Ursinus scored twice in the top of the sixth inning, taking a 3-2 advantage on a bunt RBI single down the first-base line and a sacrifice fly to right field. Grube came in to pitch for LVC in the top of the seventh and posted a shutout inning, registering a strikeout swinging, a groundout that she fielded in the pitching circle, and a groundout to shortstop. The Bears went on to maintain their lead through the end of the game.

- Grube tallied two hits with a triple and an RBI. The first-year also pitched a scoreless inning of relief, picking up a strikeout in the process.
- Heard recorded a base hit and an RBI.
- Muller tied a career-high two hits and scored a run.

- Russell picked up her first career hit with a single in the bottom of the second.
- Maddy Gronback and Nikki Sellers each logged a hit.

Game Two vs. Western New England
The Golden Bears (1-0) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead on a passed ball and an RBI single to left field. Western New England then added three runs in the bottom of the second, going ahead 5-0 on a double and an error that scored three runs. The Dutchmen (5-5) responded with two in the top of the third inning, narrowing the score to 5-2. The program loaded the bases on a single up the middle by Muller, a single down the left-field line by Heard, and a single to left field by Grube. Later in the frame with two outs,
Bella Mackison hit a two-run double to center field to drive in Heard and Grube.
White pitched a scoreless bottom of the third inning for Lebanon Valley, registering a foul out to first base, a lineout to second base, and a fielder's choice on a ball hit to shortstop. The Flying Dutchmen crossed the plate again in the top of the fourth inning, narrowing the score to 5-3. Muller got into scoring position with a two-out double to center field, before coming home on an RBI single through the right side by
Abby McElroy.
The Golden Bears followed this with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it an 8-3 game with an inning that included two RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk. Lebanon Valley also kept battling at the plate in the top of the fifth inning, trimming the deficit to 8-5. The club got on runners on first and second base after
Erin Pattillo hit a single to right-center field and stole second base, and Mackison reached on a fielder's choice with a ball hit to third base.
Emily Mitchell then hit an RBI single through the right side, knocking in Mackison.
Julia Craig also added a tally with a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Mackison.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Western New England took a 10-5 lead with an RBI double to right-center field and an RBI single up the middle. Reed later pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning for the Dutchmen, recording a popout to Grube at second base and two flyouts to Willey. Lebanon Valley also kept competing in the batter's box until the final out, as
Maddy Gronback drew a walk in the top of the seventh inning. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.
Inside the Box Score
- Mackison hit a double and led LVC with two RBIs, tying a season high. The first-year scored a run during the game as well.
- Grube tied for the team lead in hits with two, extending her hitting streak to four games. The first-year also scored a run. Grube struck out two batters in 1.1 innings in the pitching circle as well.
- Muller also had two hits to tie for the team lead and a season high, including a double. The sophomore has logged a pair of hits in each of her last three games. Muller also walked and scored a run.
- McElroy registered a base hit and an RBI.
- Mitchell picked up a hit and had an RBI.
- Craig drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
- Heard tallied a base hit to extend her hitting streak to three games and scored a run.
- Pattillo logged a base hit and crossed the plate once. The senior also stole a base during the contest.
- Gronback drew a walk.
- White pitched 2.1 frames without allowing an earned run.

The Dutchmen will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, when the program will open its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom schedule with a doubleheader against Stevens Institute of Technology at Weehawken Waterfront Park in Weehawken, New Jersey.
