EWING, N.J. – Elizabeth Morgan and
Molly Whisler each had three goals for the Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse team in a hard-fought 22-9 defeat at 12th-ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at the TCNJ Lacrosse Complex in Ewing, New Jersey.
The host Lions (6-2) got off to a great start against the Dutchmen (6-4) scoring five goals in the first three minutes.
Chloe Moser won the next draw control and
Emily Beard hit Whisler over the middle for LVC's first goal. The Lions answered with a goal a little over a minute later, but the Dutchmen struck right back as
Kyla Hebert scored off an assist by
Bethany Cohee.
The Dutchmen took advantage of the first card of the game with a woman-up goal by Beard off another assist from Cohee to cut the deficit down to 6-3. TCNJ scored to push the lead back up to four, but LVC responded right back with Whisler's second goal of the game off an assist by
Alyssa Wene. The Lions scored twice in the final two minutes of the quarter to take a 9-4 lead after one.
Morgan scored her first goal of the game a couple minutes into the second quarter off an assist by Whisler to bring the lead back down to four. TCNJ scored the next seven goals over the next 10 minutes to go up 16-5. The Lions dominated possession throughout the run as LVC won two draw controls and put just one shot high on their two offensive possessions. The Dutchmen did finish the half strong as Beard had a shot blocked before putting one high. Wene put a shot high before Whisler completed her hat trick off an assist by Katie Dewitt in the final minute.
LVC battled tough to begin the second half and held the Lions scoreless for the first five minutes before the hosts scored twice to increase the lead to 18-6. Beard won the next draw and Morgan scored unassisted for her second goal of the game. The Lions responded with two goals over the final five minutes of the period to take a 20-7 advantage.
Morgan and Moser began the fourth quarter with goals to get bring the deficit down to 11. Morgan completed her hat trick on the first possession of the quarter after
Grace Marchese won the opening draw. Moser then ran down the field after a
Gigi Ditsky save on a successful clear attempt and fired a shot into the back of the net. TCNJ answered the two goals with a pair of goals to set the final score.
Inside the Box
- Whisler led the offense with four points on three goals and an assist. The junior recorded her fourth hat trick of the season on just five shots. Her third goal of the game was the 50th of her career.
- Morgan had a strong game with her fourth hat trick of the season. The sophomore scored three goals on three shots and had one ground ball.
- Beard had two points on a goal and an assist. She had recorded at least one goal in all 10 games this year.
- Cohee had two assists to give her a team-leading 41 on the season. She leads the Dutchmen with 50 points.
- Hebert scored her ninth goal of the year while Moser scored her second. Moser led the team with five draw controls and one caused turnover.
- Wene had an assist and two draw controls. DeWitt added an assist.
- Ditsky finished with 13 saves in goal and had two ground balls.
Up Next
LVC will begin conference play on Wednesday with a big road game at DeSales University. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Bulldogs in Center Valley.
