Zieber Sets Season Draw Control Record in MAC Freedom Final

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Erin Zieber had three draw controls to break the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse season record with 115 draw controls as the Dutchmen were defeated by top-seeded and 14th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology 19-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Complex in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The Ducks (16-4) got out to a quick start with two goals in the first minute. They added three more goals over the next four minutes to take a 5-0 lead through the first five minutes of play. The Dutchmen (12-7) nearly scored on their first offensive possession after Stevens' fourth goal as Molly Whisler received a pass in front of goal and fired a shot that was saved by the Ducks goalie. Midway through the quarter Whisler had another great look at the goal but her shot went wide. Bethany Cohee picked up the ground ball and passed to Emily Beard who fired a shot that the Ducks' goalie made a great save on. Stevens responded with three goals in a span of a little over a minute to take an 8-0 lead. LVC had a chance to score in the final minute as Anna Lougee was fouled for a free position shot. Her attempt was stopped by Felicity Heilferty in goal.

LVC started the second quarter with a woman advantage after a late card by the Ducks in the first. Stevens was able to hold the Dutchmen off the board and get back to even strength before scoring on a free position shot three minutes in. The Dutchmen came right back and scored their first goal of the game as Cohee found Whisler over the middle to cut the lead to 9-1 with 11:25 left in the half. The Ducks won the following draw control and countered with a goal of their own to push the lead back up to nine. They added three more goals over the final nine minutes of the quarter to take a 13-1 lead into the half. The Dutchmen had a great opportunity to score with just under five minutes to play as Alyssa Wene lined up for a free position attempt, but Heilferty made another great save to deny the goal.

The Dutchmen came out strong to start the second half and scored a couple minutes into the third quarter as Elizabeth Morgan found the back of the net off a pass from Lougee. A few minutes later, Lougee had a shot go high and then a shot blocked as the Stevens defense locked down on the LVC offense once they got close to the goal. The Ducks added three goals over the final seven minutes of the quarter to increase their advantage to 16-2.

The Ducks started with the ball to begin the final quarter, but Allison Keeney caused a turnover and Beard picked up the ground ball. LVC brought the ball down the field and Cohee connected with Lougee as the Dutchmen cut the lead to 16-3. Stevens responded with a goal on the next possession, but LVC struck right back as Zieber won the next draw control and the Cohee recorded her third assist of the game as Whisler found the back of the net for the second time. The Ducks scored twice over the final 7:17 to set the final score. LVC fought valiantly to the end and had a few great chances. Beard had a shot blocked and then Wene had a shot saved. Wene then hit the post and Morgan had a shot saved in the final two minute.
