DALLAS, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team put together a valiant effort but were defeated by second-seeded Misericordia University 5-3 on Thursday afternoon in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Semifinal match.
The Cougars won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. LVC rallied back in singles play and won two of the first three matches completed to tie the match at three. Misericordia then received wins at number six and number one singles to clinch the match victory and a spot in Saturday's final. One match went unfinished with LVC leading.
Inside the Box
- Eliana Shenk and Megan Martin gave the Dutchmen the early lead with an 8-3 victory at number three doubles. Shenk and Martin won three consecutive matches in doubles to finish the season.
- Misericordia won the other two doubles matches in closely contested affairs. Sarah McComas and Sarah Kramer dropped an 8-5 decision at number two doubles and then Jacquelyn McBride and Nicole Honrade were defeated in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-2) at number one.
- Singles play began with McBride winning her 15th match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number two.
- Kramer was defeated 6-3, 6-3 at number four to put the Cougars back up by a score of 3-2.
- McComas tied the match up with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at number three to improve to 18-4 on the year.
- The Cougars won at number six and then number one to clinch the match victory. Martin was defeated 6-2, 6-4 when Honrade took defending MAC Freedom Player of the Year Brianna Pizzano to three sets again in a tough 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 defeat.
- Shenk won her first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-8) and was tied 2-2 in the second set before the match was halted.

The season comes to an end for the Dutchmen with an outstanding 15-4 record.
