ANNVILLE, Pa. – Alyssa Wene and
Bethany Cohee scored a goal each for the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team in a 19-2 defeat to 15th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field in Annville.
The Ducks (14-3, 7-0 MAC Freedom) clinched the top seed in this week's MAC Freedom Championship with the win while the Dutchmen will be the second seed and host a semifinal game on Wednesday evening.
Stevens used a stout defensive effort to keep the Dutchmen off the board until the third quarter. Offensively, they scored eight goals in the first quarter and five more in the second to take a 13-0 halftime advantage. The Dutchmen were able to get the ball close to the net a couple of time in the first quarter but
Molly Whisler and Cohee had great opportunities blocked by a defender. The Dutchmen started to gain so momentum in the second quarter and they went a perfect 5-5 on clear attempts.
Emily Beard nearly scored the first goal of the quarter as she raced in towards the goal, but her shot was stopped by the Duck goalie.
The Ducks came out of the break and scored three goals in the first six minutes.
Erin Zieber won the following draw control and a minute later Wene drove pass one defender and fired a shot into the back of the net for her 54th goal of the year. Stevens responded with a pair of goals over the final six minutes to take a 17-1 advantage. The lead grew to 19-1 with a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the final quarter. The Dutchmen defense held strong for the rest of the quarter and stopped the Ducks from adding to their lead. LVC scored the final goal of the game in the last two minutes as
Elizabeth Morgan sent a perfect pass over the middle to Cohee who put away her 12th goal of the year.
