READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team won a pair of one-run games at Alvernia University on Monday afternoon to extend the program's win streak to seven games. LVC won the opener 2-1 and then took the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings at Angelica Park in Reading.
Game One
Lexi Smith recorded the first hit of the game as she beat out a grounder to third base with one out in the first inning. She stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs. The Golden Wolves got out of the inning with a liner to third.
Erin Sinatra pitched fantastic for the Dutchmen as she didn't allow a hit until fourth inning. Alvernia got their first base runner of the game in the second on a leadoff walk, but Sinatra struck out the side to get out of the inning. The senior then struck out the first two batters she faced in third.
Julia Craig led off the fourth with a single up the middle.
Catherine Stone came in to run for the first baseman and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt to third.
Megan Heard hit a two-out double to left but Stone was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Wolves put the first two batters on with a pair of singles. Sinatra struck out the next three hitters to get out of the jam. LVC took the lead in the fifth as
Erin Pattillo beat out an infield single to shortstop and then was thrown out at second on a
Maddy Gronback fielder's choice.
Sam Burns knocked in Gronback with a double to left center but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple for the final out.
The Dutchmen scored a huge insurance run in the seventh inning as
Lindsey McCurdy ran all the way to third on a fielding error by the right fielder. Heard knocked her in with a single up the middle. Alvernia cut the lead to 2-1 with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the inning. Sinatra got the next two batters out before a single put the tying run on. The senior ended the game with a strikeout.
Inside the Box
- Sinatra struck out 10 and improved to 11-1 on the year with the complete game victory. She allowed five hits and walked just one.
- Heard had two hits including a double and knocked in the game-winning run.
- Burns had a double and knocked in a run. In the field, she made three putouts.
- Smith had a hit and stole a base.
- Craig and Pattillo had a hit each.
Game Two
The Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. McCurdy led off with a single up the middle and then advance to second on a Heard single through the left side. Both runners moved up a base on a double steal and then Pattillo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left. The Wolves were able to get out of the inning with a popup and grounder. LVC added a run in the third as Burns singled up the middle, stole second, and then scored on a throwing error.
Jordan Walter retired the first eight Wolves she faced before a two-out single in the third inning gave Alvernia their first base runner. The senior got out of the inning with a foul popup to third base. The Golden Wolves got a run in the fifth on a leadoff walk, stolen base, and single to left center. Alvernia put another runner on with two outs on the second walk of the inning, but Walter got out of the jam with a strikeout.
The game remained 2-1 until the seventh as Alvernia took advantage of a leadoff walk to score the tying run. Walter got the second batter of the inning to pop the ball up to third on a bunt attempt before walking the third batter to put runners on first and second. She then recorded a strikeout before a single to center tied the game. Walter got out of the inning with a liner to third.
In the eighth, McCurdy started on second base and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Heard. Pattillo reached on a fielding error and then stole second. Nikki Seller came up with a big pinch hit single to right to score McCurdy and Pattillo with the go-ahead runs. Alvernia was able to get out of the inning with no more damage. In the bottom of the eighth, the Golden Wolves put runners on the corners with a one-out single to right. Walter then got a ground ball to short to get one out while the runner from third scored. She then induced a popup to Heard at shortstop for the game-ending out.
Inside the Box
- Craig had two hits for her seventh multi-hit game of the year. She made 10 putouts at first base.
- Burns increased her hit streak to seven games with a single and scored a run. The leadoff hitter has now reached base in the last 17 games.
- Walter earned her 10th win of the year with a complete game five-hitter. She struck out five and walked four.
- McCurdy scored two runs after reaching base twice on a hit and walk.
- Smith had a hit and was busy in the field with four assists and three putouts at second base.
- Pattillo had a hit, scored a run, knocked in a run, and made four assists and three putouts at third base.
- The Dutchmen stole five bases. Pattillo had two while Burns, McCurdy, and Heard stole a base each.
- LVC is now 2-0 on the year in extra-inning games and 8-0 in true road games.

The Dutchmen will be back in action tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Juniata College. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the LVC Softball Park.
