Men’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Regionals

11/16/2024 6:44:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Cross Country team wrapped up an excellent season with a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships hosted by Lock Haven University on Saturday.

Carnegie Mellon edged out Johns Hopkins for the team title 39-40 while Marywood was third with 128 points. Dickinson finished fourth with 162 points while the Dutchmen rounded out the top five with 186 points. Fellow Middle Atlantic Conference teams Misericordia and Messiah were sixth and seventh with scores of 205 and 224. Washington and Jefferson was eighth with 268 points, Elizabethtown was ninth with 282 points, and Saint Vincent was 10th with 304 points.

"All in all, this has been such an amazing season for our men and I am tremendously proud of them," James O'Brien had to say about his team's performance. "Unfortunately, Rory picked up an illness the last few days that hit him a little harder than we all thought. Despite this, our guys really showed up and lifted us to a stellar fifth place team finish, our best in school history. Our five-runner average narrowly missed our school record as well. I truly feel like this is just the tip of the iceberg for our guys as we return a large and talented group for our 2025 campaign. Matt & Joe both earning their first all-region honors – for Joe this was clearly his best effort in college so far on his career and was impressive to see.  Andrew snagged his first sub 26 and we had a tight group of Sam, Eric & Dylan from there."

JHU junior Emmanuel Leblond won the individual title with a time of 24:12.8 on the 8,000-meter course. Matthew Santana earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive year as LVC's top finisher with a career-best time of 25:12.9 to cross the line 22nd out of 216 runners. His time is seventh all-time in program history. Joe Chukoskie finished 25th to also earn All-Region honors with a career-best time of 25:18.2 which is ninth in program history. Andrew Namatka was the third Dutchman to cross the line with a career-best time of 25:50.1 to finish 44th.

Sam Rothstein was 50th with a time of 25:58.2 while Eric Shelton was right behind him in 25:59.6 to finish 52nd to round out the top five scorers. Dylan Lenhart finished 62nd with a career-best time of 26:07.6 while Rory Lieberman was 67th in 26:15.3.
