Venezia Sets Career Points Record in Final Game

READING, Pa. – Graduate student Veronica Venezia recorded five points on Wednesday night to set the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse program record for career points in her final game. She finished her career with 411 points, passing Hana Krechel on the all-time list who had 410. LVC fought valiantly but dropped their final game of the season 16–11 to host Albright College at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.
 
The Dutchmen got off to a fast start on offense, scoring three consecutive goals after the Lions scored just 1:10 into the game. Erin Zieber found the net twice and Kyla Hebert scored in a span of 38 seconds to give Lebanon Valley a 3-1 lead with 12:36 remaining in the first quarter. Albright answered back with a three-goal run of its own, taking a 4-3 advantage with 6:59 to play in the first. The Flying Dutchmen reclaimed the lead with 2:43 left in the first quarter, as Zieber and Emily Beard scored goals to make it 5-4. The Lions closed out the quarter by tying the game at five with a goal just 49 seconds before the end of the frame. Albright's offense went on to post a 7-0 run from the final goal of the first quarter through the opening minute of the third quarter, taking an 11-5 lead with 14:29 remaining in the third.
 
Lebanon Valley got back on the scoreboard with goals by Venezia and Maria Brandt, narrowing its deficit to 11-7 with 11:04 to play in the third. Over six minutes went by before either team found the net again when the Lions scored with 4:58 to go in the third quarter. Hebert got this point back with a goal just 26 seconds later, making it a 12-8 contest.
 
Albright was able to extend their lead to 14-8 with a pair of goals, netting shots at the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth quarter. Over the final 12:32 of the game, Venezia would set the program record in career points by scoring three more goals. The Lions recorded two goals during this span, resulting in a final score of 16-11.

  • Venezia led the team with five points on four goals and one assist to become the all-time points leader. She also had a team-high six draw controls.
  • Zieber found the net three times for her third hat trick of the season. The senior also won a team-high six draws.
  • Hebert scored a pair of goals in the season finale.
  • Beard and Brandt each recorded a goal.
  • Julia Abendschoen posted 11 saves to finish with a program record 484 in her career.
The Dutchmen see their season end with a 5-12 overall record and 2-6 mark in their final season of MAC Commonwealth play. Next year LVC will compete in the MAC Freedom.
