Softball Earns Split At Misericordia To Finish Regular Season

DALLAS, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College softball team had 26 hits to wrap up the regular season with a split at MAC Freedom regular season champion Misericordia University on Monday afternoon at Anderson Field in Dallas.
 
The Cougars (27-8) won the opener 6-1 before the Dutchmen (25-12) took game two 11-0 in six innings. Misericordia is the top seed in this week's MAC Freedom Tournament after going 15-1 in conference play. The Dutchmen are the third seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament after going 11-5 in the conference.
 
Game 1
Misericordia scored three in the first inning, two in the third, and one run in the fourth. Lebanon Valley got on the board in the fifth as Kyle Balthaser hit a home run to left field.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Balthaser hit her second home run of the year and was one of two Dutchmen with two hits in the game.
  • Danni Holmes also had two hits for her fourth multi-hit game of the season.
  • The Dutchmen loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh innings. LVC finished the game with 10 hits and one walk.
  • Jordan Walter struck out seven batters in 5.2 innings of relief.
Game 2
Lebanon Valley used a big four-run first inning to grab the lead. They added on a run in the second and two more in the fourth. The Dutchmen ended the game in the sixth with four more runs.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Sam Burns had a career-high five hits in five at-bats. She scored three times and knocked in a run.
  • Lindsey McCurdy knocked in the first run of the game with a single to right in the first. She then knocked in another run in the fourth.
  • Morgan Comfort earned the win in the circle with four strong innings. She struck out three and allowed three hits and three walks. At the plate she helped her own cause with a two-RBI single up the middle in the first.
  • Balthaser had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs with a double in the second and single in the fourth.
  • Jessica Truitt was the fourth Dutchman with a multi-hit game.
  • LVC had 16 hits and scored 11 runs for the third time this year.
Who's Next
The Dutchmen will compete in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament starting on Thursday at Alvernia University in Reading. Third-seeded LVC will take on second-seeded York at 12 p.m. in their first game of the double-elimination tournament.
