CLEVELAND, Ohio. –
Nicole Honrade won in singles and doubles to give the Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team their first-ever wins in an NCAA Tournament match on Thursday morning as the Dutchmen saw their fantastic season come to an end with a hard-fought 5-2 defeat to SUNY Oneonta in the first round.
The Red Dragons (18-6) won two of the three doubles matches with the Dutchmen (15-5) earning a win at number one doubles. Oneonta won three of the six singles matches with LVC getting a win from Honrade at number two singles. Two matches were unfinished.
Inside the Box Score
- Jacquelyn McBride and Honrade earned the program's first point with an 8-0 victory at number one doubles. They were the second match to finish and took 39 minutes.
- Sarah Kramer and Eliana Shenk battled to an 8-1 defeat at number three doubles while Meredith Haas and Madison Poladian were dealt a close 8-5 defeat at number two doubles.
- Honrade gave the Dutchmen their first-ever singles win in NCAA Tournament history with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number two singles against Madeline Carswell. She was the second match done and took just over an hour.
- McBride won her first set 6-1 before dropping her second set 6-3 at number one singles. Her third set was unfinished against Brianna Shaw.
- Haas played to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at number three singles against Sophia Schutte.
- Kramer was in the second set of her match against Rebecca MacDonald. Oneonta was leading 6-3, 5-4 in the tightly contested match.
- Poladian dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at number five singles against Maxi Karen.
- Shenk played Julia Holtermann to a 6-3, 6-0 defeat at number six singles.
Who's Next
The Dutchmen's incredible season comes to an end with a 15-5 record. The MAC Commonwealth Champs finish the year with a .664 winning percentage in singles during dual matches and .780 winning percentage in doubles during duals.
