ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team split a pair of games against the York College (Pa.) Spartans on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen took the opener 9-1 in just five innings but would fall to York 10-5 in the nightcap. LVC now sits at 14-12 on the season while the Spartans are now 12-8.

The Dutchmen would take the lead early in game one as they scored five runs in the opening frame. After Tori Hunyara scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the ball game, Julia Forsythe would rip a double to right-center to score Julia Craig and double the LVC lead to 2-0. Later in the inning, Sarah Musselman would double that would score three runs to give the Dutchmen their 5-0 lead after their first at-bat.

In the second, Forsythe and Jessica Truitt picked up back-to-back hits that accounted for three more runs and just like that LVC saw themselves ahead 8-0 after just two innings. York would score their only run of the contest in the third but LVC would answer that on a Truitt RBI-single in the fourth allowing the Dutchmen to take game one 9-1 via run rule.

Game two saw a reverse of roles as York put up the crooked number in the first inning as they plated four in the opening frame. Three of the Spartan runs came from a home run off the bat of Alyssa Harhigh. Emily Netterville would double later in the inning to bring home another run to give York the early 4-0 advantage.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Lindsey McCurdy launched a homer of her own in the fourth, this one a two-run blast, to pull the Dutchmen back within a pair. In the bottom of the inning, York would get both runs back on RBI-hits from Kaela Fritz and Daphney Adams and led 6-2 after four.

In the fifth inning, the Spartans would add two more runs to push their lead out to six. The Dutchmen again would look to crawl their way back into the game with three runs coming off back-to-back doubles by Anna Marie Hockman and Mandi Armstrong to bring the score to 8-5. Again, the Spartans would answer with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer by Taylor Lindsay to make the score 10-5. LVC would fall by that score after failing to pull any closer in their final at-bat.
