Dutchmen Drop Season Opener to Dickinson

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's lacrosse team dropped their 2020 season opener by a 17-7 score at the hands of Dickinson in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. LVC now sits at 0-1 while Dickinson improves to 2-0.
 
The Dutchmen would open up the scoring just under five minutes into the game when Jaclyn Little connected on a free-position shot. Erika Bloes would answer for the Red Devils with a pair of goals to give Dickinson the lead at the 20:46 mark of the first half. After seven minutes of scoreless action, LVC would regain the lead with goals by Livia Jackson and Little to pull ahead, 3-2.
 
Dickinson would start to flex their muscles on the offensive end as they finished the first half scoring the last six goals capped by a Maddy Gesner strike with just 11 ticks before intermission as Dickinson would take an 8-3 lead into halftime. The Red Devils outshot the Dutchmen 19-14 in the opening half.
 
The Red Devils would tack on another goal just 38 seconds into the second half to push their lead out to six. Veronica Venezia would respond just 1:15 later to snap a Dutchmen scoreless streak of just over 13 minutes stretching back to the first half. Later, LVC would trail 11-4 before scoring three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to five with 14:45 left in regulation. Dickinson would finish the game with five unanswered tallies to take the win, 17-7.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Jaclyn Little and Bailey Dills each recorded a pair of goals for the Dutchmen.
  • Veronica Venezia added one goal and one assists for LVC.
  • Julia Abendschoen made 13 saves in net in her collegiate debut.
  • Dickinson had four players with multiple goals led by Erika Bloes who had seven points on five goals and two assists.
  • Greta Holt and Maddy Gesner each recorded three goals for the Red Devils.
  • Dickinson outshot LVC 37-24 and 30-15 on goal.
  • LVC was 17-20 on clear attempts while Dickinson was perfect on 17 chances.
     
     
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back in action on Mar. 3 when they travel to Hilton Head, S.C. to take on Drew University. Game time is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
