How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's lacrosse team won its first game of the 2018 season by a score of 13-7 over Susquehanna on Wednesday. The Flying Dutchmen evened up their record at 1-1, while Susquehanna dropped to 0-2.
The high scoring affair was led by
Emma Jones, who tossed in a quick three goals within the first six minutes of the game. Another goal by
Makenzie Kelley in that span gave the Dutchmen an early 4-1 lead. Just a few minutes later, Kelley scored another goal at the 23:47 mark after Susquehanna was whistled for a yellow card. After the River Hawks made things close by scoring twice, the Dutchmen responded with goals by Jones and
Jaclyn Little.
Emily Federowicz and
Kirsten Bannan both scored their second goals of the year in the first half, extending the Dutchmen's lead to 9-4 at halftime.
At 25:05 of the second, Bannan scored an unassisted goal to push the lead to six early in the final half. Little took advantage of her free position shot, scoring another goal at 12:05. Bannan became the second player for the Dutchmen to score a hat-trick after her goal at the 11:13 mark. Susquehanna responded with a goal at the 6:40 mark, but
Brenna O'Neill's first tally of the season at 4:58 put the game out of reach.
Inside the Numbers
- Jones scored four goals on nine shots, two of them coming from the free position.
- Bannan tossed in three scores on five shots, while adding two assists.
- Little and Kelley notcheds two goals apiece in LVC's win.
- Little's performance also in helped the Dutchmen win the time of possession for the game with her 12 draw controls. That number ties for the most draw controls in a single game in Dutchmen history. Back on March 15, 2014, Sam Boyce controlled 12 draws at Misericordia.

Leah Franklin's 12 saves earned the sophomore her first victory in net in her first start of the season.
- For the River Hawks, Gabi Toohey and Brooke Klair both scored two goals.
- Goals by Katherina Demaio and Christine Hoerman accounted for the other two goals scored.
- Libby Dex's 13 saves were impressive, but not enough for Susquehanna.
- LVC held the edge in shots at 39-23, putting 26 of them on goal compared to Susquehanna's 18 on goal.
