How It Happened
WINCHESTER, Va. – Lebanon Valley's crazy second-half comeback fell just short at Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action. The Hornets escaped with the narrow 11-10 victory and improved to 2-3, while the Dutchmen slipped to 0-5.
Down 9-4 at the start of the second half, the Dutchmen slowly began to creep back into the game.
Rachel Anderson began the second with an unassisted goal at 27:22 to make it 9-5, but Shenandoah's Cassie Arndt put the Hornets back up by five at 10-5 with a tally at 23:56.
Emma Jones answered with back-to-back unassisted goals at 23:13 and 21:15 and then
Makenzie Kelley netted a shorthanded goal at 19:50 to bring LVC to within two at 10-8. A minute later, at 18:51, Shenandoah's Alexandra Simonson scored to make it 11-8, but at 10:30,
Kirsten Bannan scored her third of the game to make it an 11-9 contest.
Then, at 4:59, Kelley found the back of the net for the third time of the afternoon to nearly complete LVC's furious comeback. With a minute and a half remaining, the Dutchmen saw a few scoring chances, but the Hornets forced a turnover with less than a minute to go and eventually held on for the narrow victory.
