"Our men ran really well to finish second," said head coach
James O'Brien '07, M'16. "Chad (Bomgardner) toughed out a big finish for us up front and Noah (Brady) also found his way into the top 10. "Nick (Scullin), Garrett (Santis), and Ibsen (Powers) all found each other and completed our scoring group by working together as a pack. I'm pleased with how we are competing relative to the workouts we've completed, as I know we have a lot of forward momentum that we can build on over the next few weeks."
Lauren Decker earned a top-10 finish with her time of 20.30:41 and
Sarah Grow came home 14th after completing the course in 20:54.15.
Hannah Kurek's time of 21:00.63 was good enough to earn her a 15th-place finish, while
Hannah Kramlik was close behind her in 17th with a time of 21:05.25.
Rebecca Sitler crossed the finish line in 20th place after pushing a 21:35.34 pace and
Mackenzie Lausch earned a 22nd-place finish with a time of 21:48.10.
"Our ladies kicked off the day with a very strong showing," said O'Brien. "We had our group go out controlled and move up throughout as a tactic to withstand the heat. We were very effective. Misericordia is very good and Eastern beat us a bit on the front end but we were right in the mix."
"Kate (Mowrey) is off to a stellar beginning to her freshman year, leading the way for us again with a strong finish," he continued. "Lauren also did a good job in breaking up Misericordia's scoring contingency while Tilly (Grow) and Hannah squared (Kurek and Kramlik) worked together effectively as a small pack. We have great depth and that is only going to get better for us as the season goes on."
Former LVC standout
Michael Harnish '15 won the men's race in a blistering time of 27:13.92, while Eastern's Greg Thomas earned a runner-up finish thank to his 27:27.76 pace.
