How It HappenedLebanon Valley used a six-run bottom of the sixth inning to erase a late one-run deficit en route to an 8-3 win over Gettysburg in game one of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
With the Flying Dutchmen (12-9) trailing 3-2 and one away,
Alissa Robinson got things started with a single up the middle before
Haley Christensen singled to left field and
Emily Stratton kept a ground ball just left of the first base line to load the bases.
Kim Ortiz-Marrero tied the game with an RBI single to right field that plated pinch runner
Kayla Bolinsky, and
Sammy Bost put LVC out in front with an RBI ground ball to second base. After Bost swiped second base,
Cheyanne Brown singled up the middle to drive in Stratton and Bost, giving the Dutchmen some breathing room before
Emily Johnson put an exclamation point on the scoring with a two-run blast over the left center field fence.
The Bullets (20-5) erased a two-run deficit in the top of the sixth thanks to four straight singles to lead off the inning and a sacrifice fly that plated the go-ahead run.
Haley Neff struck out Mykaela Twitchell to end the frame and keep her team within striking distance.
After four and a half scoreless stanzas, Lebanon Valley got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth. Ortiz-Marrero was hit by a pitch and Bost's ensuing sacrifice bunt moved her along to second base. Brown singled before stealing second and Johnson drove both runners in with her first extra-base hit of the game, a two-out double to left center field.
The teams combined for eight hits in the game's first four innings but failed to push any runs across until late in the contest.
Inside the Circle-
Christina Mentzer made her third start of the spring for LVC and was solid in her five innings of work. She allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk, struck out one batter, and worked 13 ground ball outs.

Haley Neff improved to 6-4 on the year after throwing the final two innings out of the bullpen. She faced seven batters and allowed just one hit to go along with a strikeout and one walk. She ended the game with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.
- Aileen Reilly took the loss for Gettysburg, falling to 11-5 on the season. She allowed eight runs on 12 hits and one walk after entering Tuesday's game with a 1.65 ERA. She struck out three batters in her six innings of work.
At the Plate-
Emily Johnson's strong spring continued as she finished 3-for-4 with a game-high four RBI. She hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season and improved her team-best RBI total to 34.

Cheyanne Brown also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a team-high two runs scored.

Haley Christensen was the third Dutchman to record a multi-hit game with two singles and a run scored, while
Alissa Robinson worked the team's only walk.
- Meredith Taylor was a perfect 3-for-3 for the Bullets, while pinch-hitter Sara Braungard drove in both of the team's runs with a sixth-inning, bases-loaded single.
- Johnson had both of LVC's extra-base hits. Pitchers
Christina Mentzer and
Haley Neff combined to allow no extra-base hits in the opener.
Around the Diamond- With the victory, LVC ended the Bullets' recent seven-game win streak.

The Dutchmen (13-9) never trailed in the nightcap after jumping out to an early lead in the bottom of the third when
Sammy Bost hit her fourth triple of the year to straight away center field. The speedster nearly caught
Kim Ortiz-Marrero on the base path, who scored along with
Haley Christensen on the play after both were hit by pitches.
Cheyanne Brown added an insurance run when her sac fly to center field drove in Bost one at-bat later.
Gettysburg (20-6) got on the board when lead-off hitter Jamie Abell homered to center field in the top of the fifth but LVC answered right back in the bottom of the stanza with a two-out rally that produced three more runs. Brown's bunt single and stolen base got things rolling before
Emily Johnson drove her in with a single up the middle.
Jordyn Miller and
Kelli Valle loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and
Alissa Robinson roped a single to center field give the Dutchmen a 6-1 cushion after five.
The Bullets got one back in the sixth but
Alexa Windsor entered the game in relief of starter
Holly Langdon and made quick work of Gettysburg by getting a ground ball to end the sixth before clinching the victory with a scoreless top of the seventh.

Holly Langdon earned her second win of the year for the Dutchmen, throwing a solid 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs on eight hits.

Alexa Windsor was stellar in her four-out relief appearance, surrendering no hits and striking out one batter.
- Morgan Clauser suffered her first loss of the spring after winning nine games entering Tuesday's contest. She gave up six runs on 11 hits and three hit batters.

- Gettysburg's Jamie Abell accounted for three of the Bullets five extra-base hits and finished a single shy of the cycle.
