Dutchmen Drop McDaniel, Advance To ECAC Final

How It Happened
Lebanon Valley advanced to its third consecutive ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship game, surviving a 15-12 shootout with McDaniel on Saturday.

The second-seeded Dutchmen (12-7) advance to play host Stevens Sunday at noon as they seek the threepeat. The top-seeded Ducks handled Arcadia 13-2 in the other semifinal.

Sam Boyce and Emma Jones combined for 10 of LVC's 15 goals while Bailey Benz picked apart the Green Terror defense for six assists. At the defensive end, Shelby Morris made 13 saves as the two teams combined for 70 shots.

Lebanon Valley took control of the game thanks to an 8-1 run in the first half, flipping McDaniel's early 2-1 lead into a 9-3 advantage by the 4:48 mark of the first half. The Green Terror, however, struck three times in the half's final 1:23 to cut it to 9-6 at the break.

LVC opened the second half on goals by Jenny Simensky, Jones, and Anna Pagels, but McDaniel canceled them out with a 3-0 spurt before Boyce and Tori Kuntz scored to lead 14-9 midway through the half.

McDaniel pulled within three at 14-11 with 9:34 left, but Pagels scored a key goal at the 8:20 mark, and LVC limited McDaniel to a single score the rest of the way to move into the final.

Notables
- LVC was playing with four new alumnae: Bailey Benz, Morgan Heller, Anna Pagels, and Jenny Simensky received their degrees at the front of the line during the College's 146th Commencement in the morning, then shed their gowns and mortarboards as they drove to Hoboken in time for the game. Each of the four made an impact on the game, combining for four goals, seven assists, and nine ground balls.
- Boyce matched her season high with six goals, while Jones set a new collegiate best with her four strikes. The pair also combined for seven of LVC's 13 draw controls.
- Benz's six assists were a season-best and second in her career only to her school-record nine set in last year's ECAC final. Three of her helpers went to Boyce, and appropriately, one each to her fellow recent graduates Jenny Simensky and Anna Pagels.
- Pagels notched her fifth hat trick of the season and added an assist, while Tori Kuntz and Jenny Simensky each added goals. Kuntz extended her scoring streak to 20 games.
- Statistically, the game was about as tight as it gets. LVC held a 36-34 shots edge, while McDaniel was ahead 15-13 on draws.
- Both goalies were outstanding in the face of so many shots. Morris' 13 saves were one shy of her career high, while McDaniel's Lily Galzerano stopped 18 in the losing effort, including limiting LVC to 1-for-6 on free position chances.
- It was the second time LVC and McDaniel have met in the ECAC Tournament; the two faced off in the 2013 final that the Dutchmen won 14-10.
