How It Happened
The most magical postseason run in recent memory came to an end on Saturday afternoon when Lebanon Valley fell to #12 Rowan 13-9 on day two of the NCAA tournament's regional round in Alfred, N.Y.

The Flying Dutchmen (18-24), however, bowed out in a way fitting of the 2015 Commonwealth Conference champions they are; scratching and clawing to the end. Rowan, the region's top seed, used a sixth-inning grand slam to draw even with LVC, added some insurance in the top of the seventh, and held off a late Lebanon Valley charge to advance to the NCAA Regional championship round.

Lebanon Valley jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Sammy Bost launched a two-run home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the first inning. It was the second homer of her young career and her first to clear the fence.

After the Profs evened the score in the top of the third, Emily Johnson drove in Jorey Aumiller with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the frame to give the lead back to LVC. Jordyn Miller's bases-loaded walk pushed Tessa Deardorff across, Jasmine Dutton's sacrifice fly to right field plated Bost, Elaine Gross' single brought home Johnson to make it 6-2 after three.

Trailing 13-6 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Dutchmen refused to go quietly and scored three more before all was said and done. Johnson's line shot of a double drove in Cheyanne Brown and Bost and Dutton added her second sac fly of the game, scoring Angela Harris in the process.

The Dutchmen earned an NCAA tournament victory in Saturday's opener thanks to Neff's gem inside the circle, Johnson's walk-off single, and Bost's ability to do a little bit of everything in the team's 2-1 victory over Penn State Behrend.

Johnson played the hero with ice water in her veins when her two-out, seventh-inning single drove in Tessa Deardorff from second base to seal the thrilling tournament win for LVC (18-23) after the Lions had tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the frame.

Bost stole the show by getting it done at the plate, in the field, and on the base paths. She scored the game's first run when she leapt over an attempted tag at home, shimmied backward, and stretched to tap the plate before the catcher could recover. She also made a spectacular diving catch in center field early in the contest and started an 8-2-5 relay that prevented the Lions from scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Her third inning triple was her program-record sixth of the season and program-record tying tenth of her young career.

Quotables
"Mainly I just played for our seniors because we're so close and I didn't want our season to end today. When I hit that home run I didn't even feel like I hit it hard so I was really surprised but Cheyanne (Brown) was running in front of me and she looked back and I was like, 'oh, that went over,' so that was really exciting" - Sammy Bost on her inspired performance on the team's final day of NCAA play.

"We were definitely faced with some challenges and we knew that if we played together and we played with the heart and the talent we could play with then we could compete with anybody. We really put our heart on the line and I couldn't be more proud of this team." – Senior Tessa Deardorff, the program's all-time hits, runs scored, and stolen bases leader on this team's magical run.

"It's a special group. I just love these kids. I'll play against anybody, any time with this group. At 6-20, they didn't give in, they didn't flinch; they bought into staying the course. Every player on this team at some point did something, said something, picked someone up. All we asked in the beginning of the season was for them to compete to put us in a position to win at the highest level and they competed like crazy." – LVC head coach Stacey Hollinger on the heart and tenacity of this season's group.

Inside the Circle
- Haley Neff (12-13) capped an incredible eight-day run that saw her start nine straight postseason games and win five. Against Penn State Behrend, she earned the complete game victory by allowing just one run on four hits and a walk. She battled in the loss to Rowan, surrendering just four earned runs to a powerful Profs' lineup on four hits and two walks. The 2015 Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament MVP struck out four on the day.
- Rachel Miller (14-6) took the loss for Penn State Behrend despite pitching well enough to win. She allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks. She struck out four Dutchmen in defeat.
- Beth Ann Hyland (19-5) earned the win for the Profs after the Dutchmen chased Allison Nolan from the game after two frames and Ashley Lesch after just 0.1 innings of work.

At the Plate
- What's left to say about Sammy Bost? She just went 6-for-7 across two games against the best competition she's seen all year with a home run, a triple, four runs scored, and three RBI. Her triple in the opener was her sixth of the season the tenth of her career; good enough to earn her a share of the program's career record.
- Cheyanne Brown went 2-for-4 in each game and scored twice against Rowan.
- Emily Johnson had a solid second outing, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI a run scored. She also had the game-winning RBI in walk-off fashion in the win over Penn State Behrend.
- Rowan's Morgan Smith was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a game-high five RBI, and a run scored. Shilah Snead, Mia Baldassari, Jessica Phillips, and Damariz Mercado also had multi-hit afternoons.

Around the Diamond
- Jasmine Dutton had two sacrifice flies and drove in a pair for LVC against Rowan.
- Sammy Bost swiped a bag in each game while Cheyanne Brown took two and Tessa Deardorff stole one base against the Profs.
- Emily Johnson had six putouts and an assist against Penn State Behrend while outfielders Bost, Deardorff, and Elaine Gross combined to record five putouts.
- Jorey Aumiller had three putouts and two assists and Alissa Robinson assisted on four in the finale.
- Bost's full-extension, diving grab in center field in the opener and Aumiller's windmill stab of a liner at second base in the finale were the web gems of each contest.

Stat of the Day
5 – The number is two-fold. It's the number of NCAA tournament appearances Lebanon Valley has made since 2008. It's also the number of seniors (Jorey Aumiller, Tessa Deardorff, Jasmine Dutton, Sam Ginder, Angela Harris) who barreled down and helped this team transform from a 6-20 squad just three weeks ago to a conference champion and winner of an NCAA tournament contest.

All-Tournament Team
Thanks to their timely play this weekend, LVC's Sammy Bost and Emily Johnson were named to the NCAA's Alfred Regional All-Tournament team. Bost finished the weekend 6-for-7 with a home run, a triple, four runs scored, and three RBI to go along with the best defensive play of the weekend made on full-extension, diving grab in center field and a physics-defying play at home plate to avoid a tag by the Penn State Behrend catcher. Johnson caught every pitch of every game over the weekend and went 3-for-7 at the plate with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. Her walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh also drove in the game-winning run against Behrend.
