Photo GalleryHow It HappenedLebanon Valley tested #1 Franklin & Marshall with a tremendous effort, but a late run by the Diplomats handed them an 11-4 victory in Lancaster.
The Dutchmen received two goals apiece from
Tori Kuntz and
Sam Boyce, and goalkeeper
Shelby Morris made 11 saves as they were in a one-goal game at the midpoint of the second half. However, F&M scored the final six goals of the game to pull away for the win.
F&M raced out to a 4-0 lead and held LVC off the board for the first 27:48 of the game, but Kuntz scored twice to end the first half, first on an unassisted rip at 2:12 and then with two seconds left off
Bailey Benz's assist.
The Diplomats' Megan Kelly opened the second half to make it 5-2, but a sustained period of pressure by Lebanon Valley resulted in Boyce scoring two straight - both off free position opportunities - to cut the lead to 5-4 with 20:35 to go. That would end LVC's scoring, however, as F&M hit the next six in a row and held LVC to five shots over the final 20 minutes.
Notables- It was LVC's first meeting with F&M since 1985, and the first time the Dutchmen played against a #1-ranked team.
- Boyce recorded her fifth straight multi-goal game to have a team-best 11 for the season, and Kuntz has now scored in all five games she's played in this year.
- Morris' 11 saves are a season high. Her season save percentage now sits at an even .500.
- Free-position goals proved important as LVC converted 2-of-4 chances and F&M was 3-for-9. The Diplomats led 37-13 on shots overall and held a 10-6 draw control advantage.
- LVC struggled early with their clearances but improved in the second half, and ended up 14-for-21 for the game to F&M's 14-for-17.
-
Anna Pagels,
Emily Moatz,
Morgan Heller, and Morris each had two caused turnovers, and Pagels and Heller had three ground balls apiece.
- Brittney Jorgenson scored three goals, including her career 100th, to lead the Diplomats.
