Cross Country
LVC Invitational (Union Canal Tunnel Park, Lebanon, Pa.)
LEBANON, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College's men's and women's teams both took second place with multiple top-20 individual finishes at the 40th Annual LVC Cross Country Invitational.
The men scored 57 points, just three behind champion Misericordia, while the women had 62 points to finish seven back of Eastern Mennonite. Albright's John Wallace won the men's race, with Kristina Kronauer of Bryn Mawr taking the women's.
"We were very pleased with second place for both the men and the women," said head coach James O'Brien '07. "We were right in the hunt for the win which is exactly where we want to be at this point in the season. It's tough to be that close but it gives us something to go back to work for."
Andrew Goelz led the men with a fourth-place finish, three spots ahead of
Eliott Bonds with
Michael Harnish in 11th. Freshman
Stephen Chappell had a good first outing in 15th, and
Cody Lloyd rounded out the top five in 27th.
"Andrew ran intelligently to move up and close well, almost nabbing that second place finish," O'Brien said. "One through four we had the race won today, we need to tighten up our 5th position to move forward and I feel confident that we will do so. Two of our top five were freshman running their very first 8K, we have upside to work with there."
Brad Sweigart '11 was fifth to lead LVC's Alumni team along with
Nick D'Angelo '12 in 26th and Jeremy Ansbach '09 in 28th.
For the women, freshman
Kelsey Patrick had a debut to remember with a third-place finish, and
Cynthia Adams came in eighth overall, sixth among collegiate competitors.
Dana Stockdale (15th),
Alyssa Miller (23rd), and
Hannah Jones (30th) rounded out the top five.
"If Kelsey intended to go into the main part season under the radar she did a terrible job. What an incredible debut for her, that is at least a 1-minute personal best from high school, if not more," O'Brien said. "I was also very impressed with
Hannah Jones closing out our scoring. Our 1-5 average of 20:19 is strong and bodes well for when we race later in the season on fresher legs. Cynthia, Dana and Alyssa ran great to fill in our freshman scoring bookends."
Notable unattached runners included Jenn Cronin '11, who came in fourth, and LVC assistant coach Jolene Collins, who was seventh.
