Game 1
Game 2
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore Kristen Uhas smacked a three-run bases-clearing single in the bottom of the sixth to help Lebanon Valley College rally and sweep Albright College, 10-3 and 6-5, in Commonwealth Conference softball action Saturday.
In the second game, the Dutchmen (9-6, 2-0 CC) gave up five runs in the fifth to the Lions (6-10, 0-2 CC) before coming back with four in the sixth to win the second game. LVC routed Albright, 10-3, in the opener behind a seven-run second inning.
Laura Snyder earned the win in game one to go to 4-1, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out 13. Val Malizzia started and was on the hook for the loss in game two after allowing five runs, but Allix Sanders relieved her and shut down Albright over the final two innings to get the win.
The Dutchmen blew open the first game with a seven-run, seven-hit second inning that included two Albright errors. With the bases loaded and no outs, Lauren Sanford reached on an error by the shortstop and drove in Allie Davies and Katie Freeman to start the scoring. Snyder helped herself with an RBI single, and Kristen Uhas' single drove in Sanford. Snyder scored after an error by pitcher Becky Moist, and after a pitching change, the Dutchmen tacked on two more runs with Freeman's two-run base knock down the left-field line.
LVC added two insurance runs in the fourth on Linley Eberhart's sac fly and Amy Weist's single to left. Albright brought two back in the fifth when Alex Keyes singled down the left-field line to score a pair before being thrown out trying to stretch the double.
The Lebanon Valley bats appeared to be ready for more to start the second game. The Dutchmen got on the board with Jess Salisbury's RBI single up the middle and Katie DeJulio's double to take a 2-0 lead.
The game stayed that way until a big Albright fifth inning put the Lions in control. Olivia Miller scored on a dropped ball by centerfielder Janey Kozlowski, and Tara McMurtrie came home on a wild pitch. Ally Wenrich helped herself with a sac fly to plate Stevie Crouse, and Gloria Alfonsi's single scored another run. Malizzia walked in the final run of the inning.
But the Dutchmen didn't back down, and after Sanders quickly took care of the order in the sixth, LVC started the bottom of the inning by loading the bases with one out. Sanford singled to left, scoring DeJulio to make it a 5-3 game. Snyder reached on a fielder's choice as the Lions got Kozlowski out at home, but with two outs and the bases still loaded, Uhas stepped up and smacked a bases-clearing single to right to give LVC a 6-5 lead.
