Baseball's Big Inning Beats Ursinus, 9-2

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Junior Bert Malloy hit a grand slam as part of a seven-run fifth inning as Lebanon Valley College came back to beat Ursinus, 9-2, in baseball action Wednesday.

The Dutchmen (6-7) have now won four straight after a seven-game slump. The Bears fell to 8-3.

In addition to Malloy's four-RBI day, senior John Mentzer went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and now has 148 career hits, three shy of the program record.

Nate Blough pitched six solid innings to earn the win, allowing six hits and two runs, one earned.

Ursinus took a quick 2-0 lead in the first, but LVC cut the lead in half thanks to Corey Lamoureux's single to right to score Mentzer in the third.

The score stayed at 2-1 until the fifth when the Dutchmen unloaded seven runs on four hits. A pair of walks put two on, giving Tim Wolle a chance to plate both with a single to left. Dennis Morgan drove in another run, and two batters later, with the bases loaded, Malloy jacked his grand slam to end the scoring for the inning.

Mentzer added the ninth run with a single down the left field line to score Malloy in the seventh.

Shane Specht, Andrew Pipkin, and Mike Snyder each pitched an inning of relief down the stretch, allowing one hit among them.

LVC returns home to McGill Field Thursday to host Kutztown University.
