Lycoming Nips LVC In Double-OT, 79-75

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa
. - Lycoming College's David Wilson drained a pair of three-pointers in the second overtime as part of an 8-2 run to pull away and nip Lebanon Valley College, 79-75, Tuesday night at LVC Gymnasium.

The Dutchmen (8-12, 2-3 CC) had several chances to go ahead in the final minute of regulation, including Dan Hodge's cutting layup at the buzzer that fell off the side iron. The Warriors (11-8, 3-2 CC) were paced by Greg Sye's 21-point effort.

Hodge led LVC with 21 points, and Eric Humphrey added 13. LVC had a dismal night at the foul line, shooting 17-of-33, including four missed shots in the final 1:14 of regulation.

The two sides played a tight regulation, but LVC went on a 6-0 run to take a nine-point lead with 3:03 left. Lycoming, however, responded with a 9-0 run capped by Jemayne Nowlin's three-pointer with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 58.

With the Dutchmen looking at the last shot, Hodge took a quick pass from Kyle Enoch and cut through the lane, but his effort was just to the left of the rim and the game headed to overtime.

Lycoming struck first in the first OT with Sye's layup, but LVC responded with Humphrey's bucket to tie the game. Kevin Morris converted a three-point play to give Lycoming the lead with 3:52, but Hodge's jumper combined with a pair of Matt Staub foul shots gave LVC the lead right back. Another basket from Hodge made it a three-point lead with two minutes left.

Lycoming's Richard Varnell hit a runner to cut LVC's lead to one, and another pair of Staub free throws put the Dutchmen up 68-65 with 19 ticks left. But true to form, on a night that saw the earlier women's game go to overtime thanks to a last-second three-pointer, Eric Anthony came down and canned a trey for Lycoming just before the buzzer to send the game to a second overtime.

Varnell hit the opening bucket of the second OT, but Humphrey made one of his own to tie the game before the Warriors' Wilson made two straight three-pointers to give Lycoming a lead it would not give up. LVC got within three on Hodge's trey with nine seconds left, but wilson iced the game with a foul shot three seconds later.

LVC will head to Albright College Saturday for an 8 p.m. tip.
