Men's Basketball Knocks Off Widener, 78-63

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Senior Peter Ruth scored a career-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting and sophomore Dan Dunkelberger notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards as Lebanon Valley College knocked off Widener University, 78-63, at LVC Gymnasium Wednesday.

The Dutchmen (7-11, 1-2 CC) snapped a three-game losing skid in handing the Pride (15-3, 1-2 CC) just their third loss of the season. Lebanon Valley dominated the boards, outrebounding Widener 51-32, including 37-18 off the defensive glass.

Ruth got all his scoring done off the bench in 21 minutes of play, but Lebanon Valley had contributions all around. Junior Kyle Enoch added 14 points, while freshman Grant Becker (9 pts., 7 rbs.) and junior Dan Hodge (9 pts., 6 rbs., 4 asst.) both had solid games.

Charles Jones led the Pride with 14 points. Hot shooting (31-of-60) kept LVC in the game despite committing 23 turnovers to Widener's nine.

LVC went wire-to-wire as it opened up a 20-8 advantage midway through the first half and never looked back. The Dutchmen used long passes to break Widener's press, and LVC seemingly scored at will in the paint, getting 52 points inside.

The Dutchmen inflated the lead to 23 points with 4:14 to go before Widener went on a 12-3 run to end the half and go into the break down 42-30.

Widener kept chipping away to start the second, and a pair of free throws by Jones made it 49-41 with 15:18 left in the game. However, moments later, Becker's layup and a technical foul on the Widener bench proved to be the turning point as LVC turned on the jets and re-established a double-digit lead for good.

LVC heads to Elizabethtown College Saturday for a 4 p.m. conference tilt.
