ANNVILLE, Pa. - Albright College rode a late surge and a pair of 16-point performances to a 73-54 Commonwealth Conference win over Lebanon Valley College at LVC Gymnasium Saturday.
The Dutchmen (6-11, 0-2 CC) lost for the third game in a row and for the fourth time in five outings. The Lions (12-3, 2-0 CC) won for the seventh time in eight tries.
Dan Hodge led LVC scorers with 15 points, while James Shinn chipped in 12. Eric Humphrey, getting his first start of the year, had a solid all-around game with eight points, eight rbounds, three blocks and three steals.
Tom Murphy and Kyle Brudvig each drained 16 points for Albright, while Albert Medoro scored nine and pulled in seven caroms.
LVC never led in the game. After a Dustin Kerns foul shot pulled the Dutchmen within a point with 5:08 left in the first half, Albright hit a 12-2 run to end the half and took an 11-point advantage into the break.
The start of the second half saw the Lions extend their lead further, starting with a 7-2 run and eventually leading by 16 with 12:57 to go.
The Dutchmen, however, kept the pressure on, and a 12-2 run keyed by consecutive layups by Hodge and Kyle Enoch cut Albright's lead to six at the nine-minute mark.
The Lions answered with solid shooting and plenty of chances at the line, and re-established their 16-point lead with 4:21 left on Medoro's pair of free throws. Mike Larkin's three-pointer gave Albright a 19-point lead, its largest of the game, as time wound down.
Lebanon Valley will stay at home to host Widener University wednesday at 8 p.m.
