Box ScoreHERSHEY, Pa. – No. 2 Elmira College scored four straight goals to start the game as they defeated Lebanon Valley College, 4-1, Friday night in ECAC West ice hockey action at HersheyPark Arena.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-14-1, 0-7 ECAC West) extended their winless streak to 10 games, while the Soaring Eagles (12-0-2, 5-0 ECAC West) remained the only undefeated team in the nation.
Elmira wasted no time in opening the scoring when Albert Mitchell tallied from Ryan Arnone at 4:02.
The Soaring Eagles made it 2-0 when Rusty Masters collected a rebound and rifled the shot home at 10:58
Moments later, the Dutchmen were faced with being two men down after penalties 30 seconds apart on
Nick Averona and
Pete Rossi. The LVC penalty kill, however, withstood the Elmira attack and successfully ran out the Eagle power play.
The second period remained quiet until a two-goal blitz by Elmira in the late stages. Larry Willard scored at 14:24, and Karl Linden followed up 1:01 later in a four-on-four situation to make it a 4-0 game.
The Dutchmen finally broke through in the third as freshman
Ray Nicks scooped a shot in from the left side of the net at 12:33, with assists from sophomore
Spiros Anastas and freshman
Bobby Marshall.

Aaron Miller played a solid game in net, stopping 42 shots. Elmira held a 46-21 shots advantage.
Lebanon Valley had an outstanding penalty kill on the evening, as Elmira went 0-for-11 on the power play. Casey Tuttle stopped 20 for the Eagles.
LVC and Elmira skate again Saturday at 3 p.m.
