GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team pushed No. 3 Messiah College to the brink but ultimately lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, in overtime Saturday night in front of an electric crowd of 3,500 at Shoemaker Field.

The Flying Dutchmen (6-5, 0-1 Commonwealth) gave the three-time defending national champion Falcons (9-1, 1-0 Commonwealth) all they could handle, but Ben Jordan hit the golden goal four minutes into the extra period to dash LVC's hopes of an upset.

Sophomore Travis Steedle gave Lebanon Valley a stunning opening goal in the 35th minute, taking the ball from the 18 and beating his defender to send LVC into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Messiah equalized in the 53rd minute when Josh Mull was pulled down in the box, allowing Kai Kasiguran to convert a penalty and make it 1-1.

The Falcons added a second when Kasiguran played through to Matt Dorsey, who slid the ball home in the 68th minute.

With time winding down, the Dutchmen got just a single shot in the final 20 minutes but they made it count. Freshman King Saah netted a sensational equalizer with 3:55 remaining in regulation, floating a shot that goalkeeper Jared Clugston couldn't hold on to.

The Dutchmen defense, which had held all game under pressure of 22 shots, couldn't hold back the flood in overtime, and Jordan netted a ball of a near-post corner four minutes into the period for the victory.

Junior Tim Mehl made six saves, while Clugston stopped one. Messiah had five corners to LVC's none. The Falcons outshot LVC 22-4.

Lebanon Valley will head to Misericordia University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
