Swimming Teams Fall to Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Kevin Carney broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, but the Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams lost to the University of Scranton in a dual meet Saturday afternoon.

Lebanon Valley’s men’s team lost by a 97-79 count, falling to 2-2 on the season. The women’s squad dropped a 110-78 decision and are now 1-3.

Carney shattered Isaac Greene’s ’06 school record by 15 seconds, winning the event in 10:40.02.

For the women’s team, the 200-yard freestyle relay team picked up the team’s only victory of the day. Senior Amy Miceli, freshman Rebecca Edwards, freshman Alyse Canciello, and freshman Hillary Forsythe touched the wall in 1:45.42.

Freshman Lisa Niethamer qualified for the MAC Championships in the 200-yard IM (2:27.55), as did sophomore Lauren Horst in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.67).

Lebanon Valley’s men’s and women’s teams return to action on Saturday, when they host Drew University and the Juniata College women’s team.
