GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team blanked Messiah College, 9-0, for a critical Commonwealth Conference victory Wednesday afternoon.
The Dutchmen (4-1, 2-0 CC) will have a chance to take the league lead if they can beat Elizabethtown College tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. That match will be a resumption of a match called due to darkness on Sept. 20, with E-town leading 4-3, but two matches remaining in the third sets.
LVC had little trouble dispatching Messiah, winning all but one singles match in straight sets. Sophomore Sarah Grodzinski picked up a win at No. 1, beating Sadie Sumner 6-3, 6-2, while senior Leslie Sabas needed three to win at No. 2, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 over Leah Bradshaw.
Junior Kelly Moll topped Stacey Clark, 6-4, 6-0, while junior Charissa Nordall eased by Laura Miller, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Shayna Heintzelman, with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, and junior Sara Wagner, with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, rounded out LVC"s singles wins.
LVC will complete their Commonwealth Conference match with Elizabethtown Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the LVC Tennis Complex. The Dutchmen will then travel to Juniata College this Sunday at noon.
