GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College volleyball team came one step closer to clinching a spot in the Commonwealth Conference tournament Wednesday, topping Messiah College, 3-0 (30-18, 30-28, 30-19).
The Dutchmen (19-7, 3-1 CC) are in sole possession of second place in the conference, behind 4-0 Elizabethtown and ahead of Widener and Messiah, who are both 2-2.
LVC has not technically clinched a playoff spot yet, but a win in its final Commonwealth game against Widener would earn the Dutchmen the second seed and a home semifinal match.
The Dutchmen had little trouble against the Falcons, winning the first game handily. The second game was more challenging, as the Dutchmen had to come from behind and rely on some outstanding defense to win 30-28.
Junior Margaret Prebula and freshman Michelle Little led LVC with 12 kills apiece, while senior Jill Miller had 20 digs, while Little had 12.
Freshman Emily Perkins put up 41 assists, junior Christa Vrabel had four service aces.
Lebanon Valley will take the weekend off before hosting Widener in both teams' Commonwealth Conference finales Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
