HERSHEY, Pa. – For the second game in a row, No. 1-ranked Manhattanville College utilized balanced scoring as the Valiants posted their second-straight shutout, blanking Lebanon Valley 7-0 in ECAC West ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at the Hersheypark Arena.
Manhattanville (15-0-3, 7-0-3 ECAC West) received goals from six different players after having nine players score in its 10-0 win over Lebanon Valley (2-19, 0-11 ECAC West) on Friday night.
The Valiants, who kept their undefeated record intact, erupted for five goals over the opening 8:13 against starting goalie Kelly Curl. Freshman Aaron Miller then came off the bench and yielded only two goals the rest of the way while turning aside 39 shots.
Mike Ruberto led Manahattanville with two goals and one assist while Chris Mills had one goal and two assists. Paul Reimer made 12 saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Valiants.
Arlen Marshall and Troy Maleyko got things started for the Valiants, scoring power-play goals 45 seconds apart to give their team a 2-0 lead 3:25 into the game. Zeke Hume, Mills, and Ruberto all added even-strength goals over the next 4:48, prompting a LVC goalie switch.
Miller saved all eight shots he faced in the first period, then held the Valiants scoreless until late in the second period, when Manhattanville scored twice. Ruberto scored his second goal of the night with 4:19 left in the period before B.J. Greaves followed up with the Valiants' fifth consecutive even-strength goal with 1:11 on the clock.
Miller was perfect in the third period, stopping all 12 Manhattanville shots.
Lebanon Valley returns to the ice next Friday and Saturday, when it visits No. 10 Hobart for a two-game series.
