Men’s Hoops Drops 69-65 Decision at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Jared Yoder scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, leading host Messiah College to a 69-65 victory over Lebanon Valley in Commonwealth Conference men’s basketball action Saturday evening at Brubaker Auditorium.

Messiah (10-4, 4-0 CC), which led 31-26 at halftime, out-rebounded the Flying Dutchmen 35-24, holding a 15-5 edge on the offensive glass.

Yoder shot 8-for-11 from the field and at the foul line. He also connected on 3-of-4 three-point attempts.

Lebanon Valley (10-5, 2-2 CC) received 17 points from senior guard Jimmy Curran while senior guard Hunter Bretschneider added 13 points. Junior forward Peter Ruth and sophomore guard Dan Hodge notched eight points apiece.

Ryan Witmer added eight points and six rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench for the Falcons.

Lebanon Valley shot 55.8% for the game while Messiah made 42.9% of its shots. The two teams combined to make only 16 turnovers, with the Dutchmen committing a season-low 10.

The Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, when they host Widener University at 7:30 p.m. in another Commonwealth Conference showdown.
