Late Goal Lifts Wilkes Over Women’s Soccer, 3-2

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Christina Waldele scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left, lifting Wilkes University to a 3-2 win over Lebanon Valley in a non-conference women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Wilkes (2-1) led 2-1 in the 66th minute after Waldele’s first goal of the game before senior Keri Foster tied it up for LVC (0-3) in the 82nd minute with the team’s first goal of the season.

The Lady Colonels never trailed after Bethany Head scored in the 30th minute. Wilkes committed an own goal in the 37th minute and it was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Sophomore Erika Ely made a career-high 17 saves in goal for Lebanon Valley. She came up two saves short of the school record set by Suzanne Becker ’01 against Widener on Oct. 22, 1999.

Lebanon Valley resumes its schedule on Wednesday, when it hosts Gettysburg at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match.
