ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley shut out No. 1-ranked Messiah College for the final 68:59, but it wasn’t enough to overcome two early goals as the Falcons posted a 2-0 Commonwealth Conference victory Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Cali Pitchel gave Messiah (7-0, 1-0 CC) all the scoring it would need when her cross from the right was deflected in by an LVC defender in the fourth minute. Kaci Kynstra punched in her fifth goal of the season from the top of the box in the 22nd minute to set the final score.

Sophomore goalie Erika Ely made five of her seven saves in the second half for Lebanon Valley (1-5-2, 0-2 CC). Cassie Grose started between the pipes for Messiah and played the opening half, making two saves to pick up the win. Brindley Beckwith played the final 45 minutes and did not make a save.

Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Elizabethtown at 7 p.m. in another Commonwealth Conference match.
