ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Natalie Goodfellow broke Lebanon Valley's career kills record and finished with a match-high 17 kills, leading the Flying Dutchwomen to a 3-0 (30-13, 30-25, 30-20) Commonwealth Conference victory over Albright College Tuesday evening in the LVC Gymnasium.
Goodfellow entered the match with 1,299 career kills, tied with Lexi Horstman '06 for the school record. She took sole possession of the all-time LVC mark when she took a set from sophomore Erin Yost and threw it down for her 1,300th kill, which gave her team a 4-0 lead.
Lebanon Valley (10-4, 2-0 CC), which won for the seventh time in its last eight matches, also received 11 kills from sophomore Margaret Prebula. Yost had 31 assists while Goodfellow and sophomore Brandi Roth served up three aces apiece. Junior Jill Miller came up with a career-high 28 digs.
Albright (7-9, 0-2 CC) was led by Abbey Reames, who had 11 kills and 13 digs.
The Dutchwomen got out to a 5-0 start in Game 1, and it was 16-11 in favor of LVC before a 7-0 Valley run broke the game open. Goodfellow racked up six kills during the decisive stretch, including five in a row to end the run.
Lebanon Valley overcame early deficits in each of the final two games. Albright led 9-3 in Game Two before LVC began to chip away. A 6-2 run made it 11-9 in favor of the Lady Lions, and a 9-3 surge put the score at 18-14 and gave the Valley the lead for good. Albright hung around, however, and it was a two-point game (27-25) following a Nikki Gesiskie kill before LVC won the final three points to take a 2-0 lead.
Albright led 5-3 in the final game before LVC answered with a 8-4 run, and the Dutchwomen would not trail again. It was 19-15 after a Reames kill, but the Valley outscored the Lady Lions 11-5 the rest of the way.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Friday, when it faces Dickinson and Grove City on the first day of the York (Pa.) Tournament.
