LANCASTER, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team dropped a non-conference game at Franklin & Marshall on Thursday, falling by a 5-1 count to the Diplomats.

F&M (3-1), ranked No. 9 in the Mid-Atlantic region, never trailed after Ryan McGonigle scored in the fifth minute. The Dips added another goal in the 16th minute before freshman Justin Hutchinson punched in his second goal of the season for LVC (2-3) to make it 2-1 at the 20:00 mark. However, F&M answered back with a goal from Danny Shuptar in the 34th minute to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

It was still a two-goal game before the Diplomats scored twice in the final 6:07. McGonigle and Shuptar each scored their second goal of the game, with McGonigle’s coming on a penalty kick.

Junior John Mentzer played most of the way in goal before sophomore Tim Mehl came on for the final 10 minutes. Each keeper was credited with one save.

Ed Stelz made two saves to earn the win between the pipes for F&M.

Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Goucher College in a 2 p.m. start.
