Women’s Hoops Falls to Moravian, 90-60

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior forward Monica Johnson posted game-highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season but the Lebanon Valley College women’s basketball team dropped a 90-60 decision to Moravian College in a Commonwealth Conference tilt Wednesday evening at Johnson Hall.

Moravian (18-4, 9-2 CC), ranked No. 25 in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll, never trailed after racing out to a 17-4 lead. Four different Greyhounds reached double figures in scoring, led by Stephanie Seaman’s 15 points. Kelly Applegate added 14 points for Moravian while Jenny Hackleman and Katie Rizman added 11 points apiece.

Freshman forward Megan Bish also notched a double-double for Lebanon Valley (6-16, 1-10 CC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Greyhounds saw their lead exceed 20 (33-12) when an Applegate lay-up capped a 9-0 Moravian run. It was 37-22 after a Johnson jumper with 5:48 left in the half, but the ’Hounds closed the period on a 15-4 run to make it 52-26 at the half.

Moravian forced Lebanon Valley into 20 of its 33 turnovers in the decisive opening 20 minutes. The Greyhounds shot 51.2% in the opening half while holding LVC to 33.3% shooting.

Lebanon Valley shot 46.7% in the second half, when Moravian outscored LVC 38-34. The Greyhounds led by as much as 36 (80-44) with 8:08 left.

The Flying Dutchmen play their home finale on Saturday, when they host Juniata College at 3 p.m. in another Commonwealth Conference affair.
