HARRISBURG, Pa. – Senior Brandon Rose scored one goal and handed out one assist as Elmira College defeated Lebanon Valley 3-1 in an ECAC West ice hockey game and the Flying Dutchmen's season finale Saturday afternoon at Twin Ponds East.
Elmira completed its regular season 15-8-2 and 8-6-1 in the ECAC West and moves on to the conference playoffs. The Dutchmen finished the 2005-06 campaign 4-21 and 0-15 in ECAC West play.
Rose put the Soaring Eagles on the scoreboard 7:06 into the game when he picked off a pass in the Lebanon Valley zone and fired in a quick wrister between the circles. Then 1:36 later, Elmira capitalized on a power play when sophomore Russell Smith ripped a shot from the blue line that deflected off an LVC player and into the net, making it 2-0. Freshman Tyler Cann completed the first-period scoring when he punched in another shot between the circles 56 seconds before the horn.
The Dutchmen made it a 3-1 game with a short-handed goal 2:48 before the end of the second period. Junior Alex Beatrice took a centering pass from senior Brendon Herr and from point-blank range potted his seventh goal of the season.
Senior Greg Fargo stopped 25 of 26 LVC shots to earn the win in goal for Elmira. Senior Sonny Holding came up with 37 saves in his final collegiate game.
